ΩLuis Navarro and the Golden Palms of Belgo–Hispanic Merit (1983)

On March 21, 1983, in Brussels, Luis Navarro received the Golden Palms of Belgo–Hispanic Merit (Palmas de Oro al Mérito Belgo–Hispánico) from the Asociación Belgo–Hispánica.

The award included:

Official Diploma: signed by the Grand Chancellor and council of the association, formally certifying the honor.

Decoration: a golden palm wreath suspended from a ribbon in the colors of Belgium and Spain, symbolizing cultural union and distinction.

The Golden Palms carried a royal association through the mention of Queen Fabiola, reflecting both prestige and patronage. For Navarro, this early recognition was more than an artistic award—it affirmed his role as a painter and cultural ambassador, whose Navarresque Surrealism was already resonating across Europe.

This honor was the first in a sequence of distinctions he later received from the same institution, including the Knight’s Cross (1989) and the Officer’s Cross (1990).
