ΩLuis Navarro at the International Festival of Osaka (1983)
In May 1983, Luis Navarro’s surrealist canvases crossed continents when he was invited to exhibit at the International Festival of Osaka in Japan. The event, held from May 16 to 22 at the Sony Salon in the Sony Tower, brought together artists from around the world in a dialogue of cultures at a time when international artistic exchanges were expanding beyond Europe.
The recognition included:
Diploma: adorned with golden motifs and bilingual inscriptions in French and Japanese, certifying Navarro’s participation as an invited painter.
This honor was particularly meaningful as it demonstrated the receptiveness of Japanese institutions to avant-garde international art and confirmed the universal resonance of Navarro’s Navarresque Surrealism.
For Navarro, Osaka represented more than an exhibition abroad—it was the confirmation that his art could transcend languages, traditions, and continents, creating a cultural bridge between East and West.
Today, this diploma remains a testimony of Navarro’s early international expansion, marking the moment when his dreamlike worlds reached Asia and solidified his global artistic presence.
