Luis Navarro is more than just an artist. He is someone who transforms his life into art and his emotions into images.
Born in Barcelona in 1935, at the age of seven he went into exile with his mother in Tudela, while his father was already living in France. In that harsh post-war environment, he found refuge in drawing, music, and imagination.
He studied Fine Arts while playing guitar in clubs along the French Riviera. For years, he lived off music—until gradually, plastic arts became the center of his life.
The Day Picasso Pushed Him to Fly
In 1969, Luis had a meeting that would mark his path forever. In Mougins, he showed his works to Pablo Picasso. The master, without knowing who the artist was, said:
“You have found the hardest thing for a painter: your own style.”
That phrase pushed him to keep painting with more conviction than ever. It was not just about technique or skill — it was about finding a unique voice.

A Surreal, Poetic, and Deeply Human Style
Luis Navarro’s works are unmistakable. Faceless human figures, symbolic objects like eggs or pitchers, scenes that seem to come straight from a dream. Everything is charged with mystery, sensuality, humor, and melancholy.

His art does not seek to shock. It seeks to touch something deep — something that doesn’t always have words.
He has exhibited in Paris, London, Madrid, Osaka, New York… And in 2005, a major retrospective was dedicated to him at La Grande Arche de La Défense (Paris), featuring over 400 works. He was also awarded by the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, among other international recognitions.

Today: Creating, Dreaming, Continuing
Currently, Luis lives in Roses (Empordà), where he continues creating with the same passion as always. His work keeps growing, dreaming, breathing.
And for those who wish to enter a little deeper into his world, there will always be an open door: a painting, an exhibition, a glance. All it takes is to stop… and let yourself be carried away.
