ΩLuis Navarro and the Bronze Medal of “Arts, Sciences, Lettres” (1984)
On May 6, 1984, in Paris, Luis Navarro received the Bronze Medal of the Société Académique “Arts, Sciences, Lettres”, one of France’s most prestigious cultural institutions. Founded in 1915 and crowned by the Académie Française, the society honors individuals whose work contributes to the progress of culture and knowledge.
The recognition included:
Diploma: issued by the Commission Supérieure des Distinctions, certifying Navarro’s entry into the international community of creators.
Medal: a bronze medallion marked with a laurel wreath and the cross of Arts, Sciences, and Letters, symbolizing creative achievement and intellectual contribution.
For Navarro, this award confirmed that his Navarresque Surrealism was not only admired in galleries but also respected in academic and intellectual circles. His ability to merge dreamlike imagery with technical mastery placed him among creators who bridged art, science, and humanistic values.
As one of Navarro’s earliest French distinctions, the Bronze Medal paved the way for a series of international honors, marking the recognition of his work as both imaginative and intellectually significant.
