ΩLuis Navarro, Deputy of the République de Montmartre (1990)
On April 7, 1990, in Paris, Luis Navarro was inducted into the République de Montmartre, receiving both the Brevet de Vertu Civique and the title of Deputy of the Republic.
The honor included:
Diplomas: decorated with colorful motifs and a watercolor of Montmartre’s rooftops and windmills, evoking the bohemian spirit of the neighborhood.
Medal/Insignia: a golden medallion hung on a chain, symbolizing Navarro’s entry into the artistic community of Montmartre.
This recognition placed Navarro within the lineage of artists and free spirits tied to Montmartre, historically the cradle of modern art movements. His Navarresque Surrealism was acknowledged as a continuation of the bold imagination once fostered in the same Parisian quarter by pioneers like Picasso and Modigliani.
The ceremony, remembered in photographs of Navarro holding his diploma and wearing the tricolor sash, represented not only an honor but also a cultural embrace by Paris itself. It confirmed that his surrealist vision belonged within the tradition of Montmartre’s artistic avant-garde.
